Broughton
island escape
Steve Rogers summer 98
Was this the club's first official trip overseas?
No, well who cares.
The ten hardy seafarers who were brave enough
to sail around the cape in search of some decent R&R in July
were blessed with perhaps the best weather the season could offer.
Broughton Island turned out to be a grassy,
rabbithole infested subtropical paradise with some excellent snorkelling,
fishing, rockhopping and sunbaking locations. While some of the
party were off catching (and in some cases clubbing) fish, others
were trying to paddle around the island in the club's SS DOLPHIN
to catch a glimpse of some good climbing cliffs, before returning
for a quick game of paddlefish (which, by the way, is about to
sweep the nation).
Was Peter's backpaddling an attempt to thwart
the discovery of the fabled North Broughton Island (the Atlantis
of the Pacific)? Anyway, after a short 10 minute tempest, the
group was hastily escorted off the island and returned to civilisation.
