Guidelines
The NUMC has an Equipment Store from which members can hire a wide range
of outdoor equipment at nominal fees. The store is located on the north-eastern
side of campus, under the Forum sports centre.
Hiring Gear
Club members may hire only one pack, sleeping bag, tent etc at a time,
to prevent our gear being used and worn out by people who are not NUMC
members. Gear may be booked for personal use, but major WATSON trips have
priority on all occasions. Our gear hiring system is computerised, and
receipts are issued for every item hired.
Late Equipment
A late fee of twice the hire fee is imposed for each week an item is late
and a late fee of $1 per week is charged for no-hire-fee items. The late
fee may be waived where a reasonable excuse is provided, such as insufficient
cleaning or drying time given wet weather. A late notice is sent out and
the Sports Union will be asked to act on our behalf if equipment becomes
more than six weeks overdue.
Damaged Equipment
All hired gear is to be returned clean and dried. Any damage due to normal
wear and tear is covered by the NUMC and the deposit will be refunded.
The equipment issuer decides if damage is normal wear or tear but any
protest is to be directed to the Gear Officer. If damage has been concealed,
the NUMC will issue an invoice for the cost of repairs to the user. Damage
caused by misuse must be covered by the borrower and no repair work is
to be carried out without approval by the NUMC. Yet the Club is willing
to obtain a written quote and organise the required work.
Lost & Stolen Equipment
The user is responsible for the full replacement cost of lost equipment.
Regarding stolen equipment, you are responsible for filling in all the
paperwork for an insurance claim and are required to pay the costs of
the insurance claim (eg excess or proportion not covered by the insurance
company).
Authorisation
Members must display a certain level of knowledge and experience before
they can hire any rocksports equipment. If you're interested in abseiling,
top-roping, climbing, canyoning or caving, see the rocksports
page. |
